Workshops: A Weekend of Shared Experience and Guided Reflection

Friendly Fire Workshop

For Those in Relationships with Loved Ones Facing Mental Illness or Addiction

When someone we love struggles with mental illness or addiction, the impact extends far beyond them. Partners, parents, siblings, and friends often experience emotional exhaustion, confusion, and a deep questioning of their own boundaries and role in the relationship.

This weekend workshop offers a space to explore the following themes:

  • The challenge of setting boundaries—when is it supportive, and when does it feel harmful?

  • Navigating difficult emotions: sadness, anger, guilt, frustration, and shame.

  • The tension between logic and the often-irrational nature of mental health and addiction struggles.

  • How others perceive our loved one’s behaviors—and how this affects us.

  • The pressure of wondering, Am I a good enough partner, parent, or friend?

  • How do I put my own ‘emergency mask’ first? Can we recognize our limits without guilt?

These experiences can shake our sense of self, bringing unhealed wounds to the surface. Through guided visualisations, mindfulness, group sharing, and therapeutic support, we will reflect on our responses, challenge assumptions, and develop tools to navigate these relationships with greater clarity and compassion.

By strengthening self-awareness and emotional resilience, this group can help participants move toward a more balanced, understanding, and loving relationship—with both their loved ones and themselves.
